Permafrost and global change

UDPG has been active in investigating the relation between global climate warming and changes in geocryological parameters. This work is performed in close collaboration with the State Hydrological Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. The group made major contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Assessment Review sections on the polar regions (Anisimov et al., 2001). F.E. Nelson is Co-Chair of the International Permafrost Association's Working Group on Permafrost and Climate Change.

Shifts in permafrost zones estimated for 2050
